Sink your teeth into our list of burger havens across the globe.

What’s your favourite food-related day of the year?
If you’re still wondering, how about the mouthwatering May 28, recognised across the globe as International Hamburger Day?
Our list of the world’s best burger places is sure to get those taste buds working:
MEATliquor – London
Tuck into local favourites here including the ‘Dead Hippie’ (two mustard-fried patties, sauce, cheese, pickles, onions and lettuce) while sipping on local brews like Hobo Beer (a trio of Czech hops).
The Hamburger Foundation – Switzerland
The name says it all – combine fresh local ingredients in classic combinations, and you’ll understand why this restaurant is named so. The sides are classic too – green salad, fries and coleslaw.
Big Chef Tom’s Belly Burgers – U.S.A.
Words can’t do this one justice. However, the website describes the fare as 100 per cent pork-belly patties, grilled and served on a toasted, buttered bun, completed in true American style. Yum!
Fergburger – New Zealand
Their rugby teams are hated, but Seffricans will love the pairings of homegrown meat, fresh buns and local produce. Try the Little Lamby – mint jelly, red onion, aioli, tomato relish and the trimmings.
Flippin’ Burgers – Sweden
This joint mixes the best local ingredients with American style, to deliver gems like the Flippin’ Burger, a double cheeseburger focused more on the taste and less on condiments and frills.
Restaurante Ritz – Brazil
Fancy a tour of culinary delights in Sao Paulo? Visit this restaurant and enjoy burgers such as the Diamond Especial – 200 grams of meat with a choice of horseradish, hollandaise or spicy sauce.
PNY (Paris New York) – Paris
Burgers made from scratch? Yes please! The ‘Return of the Cowboy’ combines Ponclet beef, 9-month mature cheddar, bacon, BBQ sauce, onion rings and a confit.
The Holyrood 9A – Scotland
Offering ‘great beers, great burgers’, the menu is a bit of everything, crowned by gorgeous creations like the Mighty – two six-pound beef patties, smoked bacon, Emmental cheese and garlic mayo.
Blacows – Japan
The name is derived from the Japanese Black Wagyu, a cattle breed. Freshly prepared meat is the key here, paired with bakery goods, homemade sauces and fresh additions. Small wonder it’s considered among the top burger joints.
Beefcakes – Cape Town
We had to end this list in South Africa. Beefcakes serves up their meaty dishes alongside the real beefcakes – try Buffy the Hamburger Slayer, with bacon, cheese, caramelised onion, avocado and mushroom sauce. Delish!
