UPDATE: Fake cops arrested in Madadeni
"We had tracked them using cellphone signals," explained police sources.
While many residents were enjoying their lunch today (May 28), the Newcastle K9 unit, Flying Squad and other officials were tracking down two armed suspects, who reportedly held up a business while dressed as police officers.
The suspects were tracked to Section 2 in Madadeni, where they were cornered and arrested by the police joint team.
“We tracked them using cellphone signals,” explained police sources.
Sources explained the suspects were arrested while in possession of illegal police uniforms, two pistols, a safe, cellphones and a camera, all of which were taken as evidence.
Sources could not confirm if the suspects were linked to an armed robbery which occurred on May 12.
Other cases of police impersonation have been recorded in the past, including an incident in September 2013 where a nurse was robbed by three men posing as police officers.
Investigations are ongoing.
