Hope for falling down Wasbank school
Aid has finally arrived for Wasbank Primary School as phase one of rebuilding is now complete.

It has been four months since the plight of Wasbank Primary school was made public in the Courier where the shocking state of the school caused a wave of concern in the community.
On an unscheduled visit to the school on June 3, the Courier, along with Dr Sandy Bedassi, the DA councilor for Umzinyathi, discovered that the roof and part of the ceiling were completely fixed. The school has also installed a septic tank and a fresh water tank on the school property however, in light of all these developments, there is still a long way to go.
The school still suffers many setbacks.
The classrooms need to be painted, lights need to be installed and the flooring needs to be fixed. Some classrooms have craters in the floors. Senior classrooms are due to get their ceilings installed. The main concern for most students still is the appalling conditions of the bathrooms.
“They need to change the toilets,” said a grade two learner.
Furthermore, a dilemma with grade 9 learners has surfaced. These learner’s have no career guidance which they found to be a disadvantage especially when they have to choose subjects in grade 10.
Phase two of the rebuilding is set to commence this year.
