NATIONAL: HIV women forcibly sterilised
A Thai massage and spa parlour owner screamed that she was HIV positive to stop an attempted rape.
Almost 500 women have been forcibly sterilised by Government hospitals and clinics for being HIV positive.
This is according to a report released by the South African National Aids Council’s stigma index.
The council conducted a survey using 10,473 from the 18 districts across the country, 498 of whom admitted they had been forcibly sterilised by officials.
Due to anonymity of the survey respondents, the findings could not be further investigated. However, these results suggested the forced sterilisation was of national concern.
Two days after the report was announced, the owner of a Thai massage and spa parlour in Durban, screamed that she was HIV positive to stop one of her clients from attempting to rape her.
