A COMPLAINT of negligence at Nkande Clinic in the KwaGrace area of Nquthu was reported to the Vryheid Herald on Thursday, June 4.
According to the complainant who asked not to be named for fear of being victimised, he took a young woman who was in labour to the clinic on Sunday, May 31.
“We got there and found that the clinic was full, with about 20 to 25 people in the waiting area,” said the disgruntled community member.
“I went straight to the counter and pleaded for assistance as the girl was in extreme pain and was told to sit down,” recalled the complainant.
After what seemed like an hour, the complainant said that he went back to the reception area to plead for help and was told that the nurses were busy doing “stats” and that they would only be attending to emergencies.
“I was puzzled by this response as this was indeed an emergency. I was then told to contact a certain Matron Sangweni if I had any queries,” he said.
The complainant was then told to go back and wait just like everyone else.
After waiting for another hour they then drove off to eMondlo clinic where the baby was delivered within 30 minutes of their arrival.
Attempts to contact the Nkande Clinic were futile.
