Bid to bring solar power to Dundee area

Council is to consider the information as municipalities around the country look to lessen their reliance on increasingly expensive Eskom power.

A former local struggle hero, Oscar Zulu, was back in his hometown – this time with a new message when it comes to power. Solar power.
Mr Zulu, who now resides in Gauteng where he works for the provincial government, and his team from Monotho Resources, recently gave a presentation to the Council on solar power and in particular, photovoltaic systems. Mr Zulu and colleagues, Naphtal Kunene and Joel Segwale, told the council that their company have the solution to reducing energy consumption, contributing to the reduction of carbon footprint.
“A photovoltaic system, also solar PV power system, or PV system, is a power system designed to supply usable solar power by means of photovoltaics. It consists of an arrangement of several components, including solar panels to absorb and convert sunlight into electricity, a solar inverter to change the electrical current from DC to AC, as well as mounting, cabling and other electrical accessories to set up a working system. It may also use a solar tracking system to improve the system’s overall performance and include an integrated battery solution, as prices for storage devices are expected to decline.”
Mr Zulu said the new system could also provide a number of new jobs. Council is to consider the information as municipalities around the country look to lessen their reliance on increasingly expensive Eskom power.
