Talented singer wants to study drama
Melanie was invited to sing at the Ladysmith Show for three consecutive years

Local singing sensation Melanie J van Rensburg was born in Pretoria, but grew up on a farm in Besters near Ladysmith.
Now attending Ladysmith High School (LHS), Melanie started singing at the age of seven. Her choir teacher, Anne Marie Boshoff, noticed her talent and encouraged her to sing solo. At the age of eight, she made the final round and participated in Bloemfontein on a TV programme called ‘Solis vir Christus’.
She was also invited to sing at the Ladysmith Show for three consecutive years. Other shows she has participated in include the Weenen Biltong Festival, Lions Music Festival and Thatchers Barn Theatre.
At Thatchers, she sang with well-known musicians from around the country.
She was invited to sing the National Anthem when the General Consulate of India, Mr Raghunatham, visited Ladysmith with the Kuchi Pudi Dance Group.
Melanie is also a very talented hockey player. She received KZN Inland colours in 2014 and was vice-captain of her team.
In addition, she excels in Speech & Drama and was awarded the Culture trophy last year.
Melanie has been invited to an upcoming event in Pretoria where she will be performing with well-known artists Pieter Koen, Willem Botha and Monique at the ‘Lente Make Tie’ on September 12.
Her dream is to study drama, acting and singing.
“I really love singing and performing; it is my passion,” says a smiling Melanie.
