Deep bite wounds, an ear half torn off, a maggot infestation, possible nerve damage and an almost unbearable stench?
This is a horrific reality even seasoned animal champions struggle to stomach.
SCPA inspector, Elize van Rooyen spoke emotionally of a puppy found by a resident near Amcor Dam earlier today, injured to the extent where rehabilitation simply wasn’t feasible.
At 12 weeks old, the brown and black puppy had to be euthanised.
“It was very emotional because it had been left injured for some time,” Mrs van Rooyen said.
The severity of the animals wounds weighed against the manner in which an owner discarded the puppy has compelled the SPCA to pursue a criminal case.
However, only the vehicle make and colour are known at this time.
The vehicle, driven by the alleged owner of the puppy, is a silver Opel Astra station wagon, with a cream-coloured bonnet and GP licence plates.
“We do not have the registration plates, which we need to open a criminal case.”
Mrs van Rooyen appealed to residents who spot a car bearing the above description, To contact the SPCA immediately on 034 318 2346 with the number plate details.
She added there was no excuse for the actions of the owner.
