Spykerspruit; the name lingering on just about everybody’s lips.

Hundreds of hopefuls flocked to Glencoe Spar Centre to audition for role in the Afrikaans romantic comedy.

The movie will be filmed in Glencoe in September, under the direction of Gerhard Odendaal.

A few teens from Newcastle shared their thoughts on what auditioning for a movie was really like.

Here’s what they had to say:

“It was amazing. My sister and I initially only went to audition for modelling roles. Later, we decided to audition for the main roles. We practised a lot, and still forgot the words, but in the end, it was worth it. It’s definitely something I would do again,” – Miss Junior SA KwaZulu-Natal, Roche Agenbag.

“It was a scary and exciting feeling at the same time; studying the script and imagining the play in your head! I enjoyed every second of it. I would love to do it again! I met Vaatjie; it was super fun. I sat down and had a conversation with him and drank some coffee,” – Musician, Rual Nel.

“I’ve been on stage from a young age and love every second of it. Auditioning for a movie was completely different and exciting. I got the chance to act in front of a well-known South African actor and professional filming crew. It was loads of fun. I even had the chance to sing in front of him as an audition for a lead role. It was definitely the experience of a lifetime! – Leendert Breedt.

“It was quite the nerve wrecking experience, but definitely exciting. First try at auditioning and I can say it was fun exploring the world of acting,” – Miss Newcastle 2015, Ashley-Rose Viljoen.

The Spykerspruit crew took to Facebook to thank all those who auditioned on the day. Regular updates are posted as to their progress and aspiring actors and actresses were encouraged to like their page.

Amid the movie madness, youngsters hold thumbs they have what it takes to be the next big thing. The Newcastle Advertiser congratulates all those who took part in the auditions, and firmly believe a Newcastillian will soon make it to the big time!
