Dates to Diarise- Dundee July

This year's Dundee July fashion challenge is themed 'Equestrian Afro-Fashion' Afro-Couture and is trending globally and everyone who speaks fashion can attest to this.

Nineteen designers from Amajuba, uMzinyathi and uThungulu are set to take the stage on July 25 for the eleventh annual Dundee July.
With the designer’s creations on the agenda, here are the other events on the calendar that you should take note off.

Dates to Diarise:
July 24: Pre-judging.
July 25: Main event – Show One consists of the Fashion programme and judging while Show Two focuses on the invited designers and selection of the winners, followed by the announcement of the winners.
The fashion calender for the event begins in April with the involvement of young designers in skills development and training towards developing a theme-related fashionable garment presented at the show.
The main event, the Dundee July, displays cultural ethnicity in fashion concepts representing the African continent with the involvement of African, national and local designers.
This year’s Dundee July fashion challenge is themed ‘Equestrian Afro-Fashion’ Afro-Couture and is trending globally and everyone who speaks fashion can attest to this. Designers are urged to think bold African prints, leather, structured silhouettes, out of the ordinary yet embracing the diverse cultures of our rainbow nation – like the equestrian sport, run wild with your garments.
This event will incorporate an Awards Ceremony for the winning designers.
The event has attracted much attention since 2014 with 25 designers participating and 53 registered to participate in 2015. This year, the brief was circulated to fashion colleges and universities throughout KZN that offer fashion design on a full or part time basis, the KZFC database designers and online platforms.
The Young Designer Award is aimed at emerging talent, to focus on and promoting emerging KZN talent. The challenge is segmented into 3 categories (i.e. Best Dressed Male, Best Dressed Female, Most Creative Designer). The prizes for all 3 categories are sponsored.
The process of selecting the 10 finalists is comprehensive and ensures that the very best designers are given this amazing platform. The judging panel is made up of very established designers, fashion lecturers, fashion journalists and fashion fundis. This is anticipated to be the most glamorous element on the programme. African and National designers are selected because of their position in the market, their experience and their current media profile.
Each designer shows a distinct and individual interpretation of the theme and showcases their work at the Fashion Showcase and again on race day on the main stage. Each are required to design a small range that consists of a showstopper and a race day ensemble for a couple.
Other Key dates:
June 30: Final selection of Invited designers (Africa, National and Local).
July 6: Shoot and regional designers leave Durban.
July 24: Designers arrive in Dundee.
July 25: The race day, where designers and their partners are VIP guests
