Hardened criminal behind bars for rape, robbery
The guard was made to lie face down on the ground after his cell-phone and cash was taken. The ladies were made to undress and were then raped.
A 27-year-old rapist and robber will be spending over a decade in prison after being sentenced recently.
He was arrested for rape, housebreaking and aggravated robbery after an incident on the night of April 4, 2013.
2 women were accompanied by a security guard at a ‘stop and go’ point on the N11 while the road was under construction. The three were in a container at the time. The lights were suddenly turned off and 2 unknown men appeared at the window.
One was armed with a pistol and the other with a bush knife. They demanded that the door be opened after breaking the window. The occupants were terrified and took cover under a table while the door was being pounded upon and broken down from the outside.
Once they had broken open the door, the suspects instructed the 3 to vacate the container. The guard was made to lie face down on the ground after his cell-phone and cash was taken.
The ladies were made to undress and were then raped. Afterwards, the suspects searched the container and the handbags of their victims. They took a cell-phone and cash from the handbags and left the scene.
Police were informed and an investigation began. Criminal Record and Crime Scene Management (Forensic) officers were summoned to investigate and valuable, identifiable fingerprints were lifted at the scene.
1 of the suspects was later identified as a result of this. He was subsequently traced and arrested.
Every effort is being made to trace the outstanding suspect, who has fled the area.
The accused, 27-year-old Thelumusa Khubeka, was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment for housebreaking, 12 years for rape and 5 years on three counts of aggravated robbery. The sentences are to run concurrently.
