Business owner fights off burglars

A factory owner was recently forced to fight off burglars, wearing nothing more than his sleeping garments.

JC Liu was one of many factory owners in Riverside Industria recently targeted by burglars.

Mr Liu explained he and his family were recently woken by a noise at 4am. Checking his CCTV footage, Mr Liu discovered the sinister meaning behind the noise.

A group of five men had entered his business’s property. Three men stood by the gate keeping watch, while the other two were trying to gain access to the business.

As the men forced the door open, Mr Liu reacted with swiftness and bravery. He charged towards the door and managed to fight the suspects off, pushed them out the building and held the door closed to the best of his ability.

“I saw one of the men had a gun, but at that moment, I was not scared as he did not pull it out and threaten me with it.”

The burglars eventually ran off when a family member aided Mr Liu by threatening to start shooting.

Although he said he was not scared while fighting the men off, Mr Liu raised concern that they would return. He is not alone in fearing his future safety.

Alex Liu, Chairperson of the Chinese Chinese Chamber of Commerce, recently voiced his concern in the escalating burglaries, saying it was only a matter of time before things turned violent.

Now with the recent stand-off between JC Liu and the burglars who tried to enter his premises, how safe are Chinese residents?

“It is the biggest worry of factory owners at the moment and many people can’t sleep well at night out of fear,” Mr Liu said.

With so many factories being targeted, the Chinese community have taken steps in creating three teams which will be patrolling the industrial area in order to assist in apprehending the burglars.

“Almost every factory owner has experienced a burglary and we are working closely with SAPS and security companies, hoping to crack down on the groups behind the burglaries. They are becoming more aggressive and we must stop them before people get hurt,” Mr Liu added.

The men can be seen searching for property to steal and are speculated to be responsible for the other burglaries as well.

Captain Shooz Magadulela, police spokesperson, has thus far failed to comment on the increase of burglaries plaguing the industrial area.
