2 arrested in Upper Tugela area for guns, drugs
The suspects face charges of being in possession of dagga, an unlicensed firearm and ammunition
A crime intelligence driven operation involving Ladysmith Crime Intelligence officers and Upper Tugela Visible Policing members resulted in the arrest of 2 people and the recovery of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition and 122kg of compressed dagga on Thursday.
The operation was held in the Moyeni area of Upper Tugela.
The dagga was packed in 39 bags with a combined estimated street value of around R125,000.
2 suspects, aged 18 and 37, were arrested and appeared in the Bergville Magistrate’s Court yesterday (Friday). They faced charges of being in possession of dagga, as well as an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni (KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner) commended the officers on the arrests. “I would like to warn all those who possess illegal firearms to surrender them because, if caught, they will face the full might of the law. The same applies to drug dealers; their drug dealing operations must cease,” she said.
