An accident in Connor Street led to the arrest of a 28-year-old suspect who was charged for drunk driving. Estcourt police attended to the accident scene at about 4.10pm on Sunday, July 19.

On arrival they found two vehicles, a Hyundai Accent and a BMW, damaged from a collision. “While police were investigating the cause of the accident, they noticed that the driver of the BMW was smelling strong of liquor and could not stand up without support.

“He was taken to Estcourt Hospital for a blood test and was thereafter detained at the Estcourt Police Station,” said police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel TM Mabaso. The man appeared in the Estcourt Magistrates Court on Monday, July 20.
