Robber-rapist brought to book

The gang of three smashed off burglar guards on a home before entering the house, encountering and subsequently raping a woman visiting her boyfriend from out-of-town.

Rape will not be tolerated.

A series of harsh sentences handed down to convicted rapists, by the Madadeni Magistrates Court, have showed no mercy for perpetrators of this heinous crime.

On Monday, a 30-year-old received a 27-year prison term.

Musawenkosi Lahlani was found guilty for his role in a rape, robbery and housebreaking on April 7, 2013 in oSizweni, Section B.

On this date, Lahlani and two conspirators sought to burgle a home.

The gang of three smashed off burglar guards on a home in oSizweni, before entering the house, encountering and subsequently raping a woman visiting her boyfriend from out-of-town.

Only the victim was at home at the time.

“The accused took three phones, a wallet and cash,” said reporter, Khulekani Khuzwayo, who attended the hearing.

One of the cellphones was later recovered, with a fingerprint on the case.

By linking the fingerprint to known associates of Lahlani, and through positive DNA matches, SAPS closed in and made the arrest.

The third member of the gang is already in prison.

Solid investigation in this case has been applauded, in particular the efforts of Detective-Constable Sphamandla Masikane from the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit.
