Tiaan proves dynamite comes in small packages

The 12-year-old, Tiaan Buys is literally leaving his contenders in the dust.

Tiaan is a regular competitor at Newcastle Oval Race Track, and has proved he is a force to be reckoned with in his 1600 Golf, by winning several trophies locally and Volksrust’s track

“In two years’ time, I will be going over to the adult division and won’t be in the Rookie division any more,” he said

Tiaan’s journey to the track began when he was eight years old.

“I grew up around cars and wanted to race them. I then started racing four years ago and my father taught me how to drive.”

However, he claimed racing was not simply about climbing into a car and speeding around the track, but took careful planning and lightning fast reflexes.

“There are times when there are faster cars than mine and I have to try and out-manoeuvre them.”

Looking to the future, Tiaan would love to go into racing at a professional level once he left school.

He encouraged others to participate in racing.

“Joining will give them opportunities and help develop the club,” he concluded.
