Shocked community members still reeling after 6 die in horror crash

It has been confirmed that the driver of the Toyota Cressida that crashed yesterday (Wednesday), killing 6 people on the N11 at the Driefontein turn-off, only had a learner’s licence.
Emergency personnel spent more than 2 hours clearing the scene. The jaws-of-life had to be used to remove the lifeless bodies from the mangled wreckage.
Traffic on the N11 was backed up on both sides while the scene was being cleared.
Ladysmith Mayor Vincent Madlala, on behalf of the municipality, would like to convey his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased.
It has been established that all the deceased are from Ward 14 in the Burford area.
Acting MEC for Transport, Community Safety & Liaison, Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo, arrived in Ladysmith yesterday and will visit the Burford area today to meet with the families at the Burford community hall.
