Vryheid Landbou High School – Working towards greatness
In March, ten learners from grades 10-12 wrote the national English Olympiad paper. This year’s theme was Stories of Mzanzi. Learners were provided with an anthology of prose by South African writers along with a study guide. The three hour paper was very challenging.
LANDBOU would like to welcome Mr Willem Erasmus, who started as a new teacher on Monday, July 27.
Mr Erasmus will be teaching Mathematics and Mathematical Literacy.
To be or not to be: English Olympiad: In March, ten learners from grades 10-12 wrote the national English Olympiad paper. This year’s theme was Stories of Mzanzi. Learners were provided with an anthology of prose by South African writers along with a study guide. The three hour paper was very challenging.
“Really, really, difficult! But Kudos to our learners who wrote the full three hours and fully deserved their commendable results.” said Mrs Tasseron.
Even though our learners had concessions as none of them is English speaking, this was nevertheless a sterling effort.
The following learners did Landbou proud:
Bronze Certificate (60-69 %): Geert Slump (Gr12); Thando Gama (Gr11); Bongeka Kunene (Gr11) and Thalente Khumalo (Gr10).
Learners who achieved Merit Certificates (50-59%) include: Vivi Zulu (Gr12); Ntobeko Ndebele (Gr11); Ntando Duma (Gr 10) and Senamile Madonsela (Gr 10).
We would also like to thank learners who received Participation Certificates: Nombuso Mchunu and Abongile Buthelezi.
Landbou would like to congratulate all learners who did their best.
Academics: The second term reports will be ready for collection from the office as from August 7. Based on the general results of the past term, the school has decided to implement extra classes and study guidance for all learners. We sincerely thank all staff for their cooperation and this will improve the general academic performance in the near future.
Extra Curricular activities: On Thursday the school experienced some excitement in different areas. The school received a visit from James Nxumalo Agricultural School who visited the school and the farm. We would like to thank all those who participated in making this day a success. Thanks to all the learners and staff who continued to diligently keep on having class despite minor disruptions.
Landbou was also visited by Eco Schools who awarded the school Bronze and Silver medals as well a flag for the work that is being done in order to keep greening the environment.
