Update: Umtshezi Municipal strike comes to an end
Municipal services have resumed and will be operating as normal

The two-day long Umtshezi Municipal strike finally came to an end yesterday afternoon (August 27).
After a memorandum was presented to council at a closed council meeting was conducted to take a look at the grievances of municipal employees.
After the memorandum was tabled at the meeting and council reached an agreement to investigate the issues listed in the memorandum and within a period of seven days, council will call a staff meeting with all municipal departments to notify them of their final decision.
Mayor, Bongani Dlamini said that most of the issues raised are administrative.
“The Traffic Department is not happy with their senior leader and it is alleged that staff receive special treatment. We have been provided us with recommendations for some of the matters,” Mr Dlamini added.
A staff meeting with various municipal departments was to meet at the town hall as part of an annual staff meeting on Tuesday, due to the displeasures, staff decided to put their tools down.
“It is unfortunate that the community had to suffer due to labour issues though municipal staff have every right to voice their grievances,” acknowledged Mr Dlamini.
Employees also want certain members whom hold senior management positions to be revaluated.
Many workers have already returned to their posts.
Municipal services have resumed and will be operating as normal, council is currently working on solutions to apply if any residents have been affected by bookings, payments and expired licences etc.
