Municipality to end housing maintenance delays?

The community is hopeful that the orders will be followed through and that this time results will be yielded.

Endumeni Municipality’s new PRO, Silindile Jiyana, teamed with Disaster Manager, Bonginkosi Zulu, are a force to be reckoned with when it comes to speedy responses and efficient service delivery.
This comes after the pair effectively dealt with a litany of complaints hours after receiving them. Residents in and around the Glenridge area claimed to have received little or no maintenance to their houses.
One resident in Civic Street had been burdened with cracks in the kitchen wall, a big gaping hole in the kitchen door, broken doors and even a broken window.
Another resident in Shroeder road also had an abundance of housing maintenance complaints.
The Shroeder resident claimed that her roof had holes in it, the bathroom and kitchen sink had started leaking, the walls were covered in cracks and the plastic covering the ceiling is so weak, birds nest in it.
“When it rains my house get drenched and my furniture gets damaged and when it doesn’t rain, rats and bats frequent my home because of the holes in the roof,” the Shroeder resident added.
A third resident, who resides in Azailia Road, faced problems with the electrical plugs in her home, as three of them were faulty to a point where one hung out off the wall attached by only a wire.
The above complaints were forwarded to the speedy pair and they responded immediately by investigating the problems.
They placed orders so that the above houses may be seen to, and attributed the delay in service delivery to the fact that the municipality had not received the complaints. Mr Zulu and Miss Jiyana also did a site visit with electricians in tow and relevant personnel was sent to deal with the complaints in Civic Street, while other personnel were deployed to do a site visit in Shroeder Road.
The community is hopeful that the orders will be followed through and that this time results will be yielded.
