Annual motor festival loses traction

One of Newcastle’s biggest calendar events was washed out on Saturday.
Despite persisting rains, which caused numerous problems for organisers of the Wesbank Motor and Outdoor Festival, it has still been dubbed a success.
“Rains played a huge role on reducing feet through the gates,” explained co-organiser, Johan Pieters.
Prior to the downpour, the festival was set for greatness, featuring the local Car of the Year contest, children’s entertainment, vintage vehicles, live performances and the destruction-hungry monster trucks.
These beasts were the highlight of the day.
“The team did their best in the wet weather, and had the crowed screaming for more during the 45-minute demonstration.”
Summarising the event, Mr Pieters said almost all the Newcastle car dealerships were exhibited on Saturday, a record for the festival.
Outdoor dealers and agricultural dealers were also in the mix.
The Old Tooters club had more than 50 vintage vehicles on display in the main hall at the Show Grounds, going out of their way to ensure success.
Sadly, the children’s characters could not appear on-stage as planned.
“Mickey, Minnie, Spongebob, Buzz Lightyear, Minion, Barney, Hello Kitty, Olaf and Michelangelo tried their best to be available in the main hall.”
After the public cast their votes, the Car of the Year was decided as the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe, with the Toyota Auris the runner-up.
November Bloom and Ferrum High School’s brass band lit up the KFC arena.
“A big thank-you must go to all the sponsors and organisers, for their efforts and support,” Mr Pieters concluded.
