Newcastle will host the National Hot Air Balloon Championships once again.

This event is a highlight on the South African aviation calendar.
“The only difference between this event and an air show is that with balloons, pilots use only the wind to steer their craft. Creative thinking on how to manoeuvre balloons in the sky is necessary,” explained Johan Pieters of Champ Marketing.
He said balloons use approximately 45 kilogrammes of propane gas per flight.
Organisers are expecting more than 12 balloons to brighten the skies, and they will perform a special flight in Madadeni, bringing the sport to the community.
“The public can look forward to being awoken by the sound of balloons hanging in the sky, some almost in their backyards if they are lucky.”
Kwêla will attend the proceedings, filming for KykNET (channel 144).
