League players battle in the wind

The results were rather disappointing...

The 2015 KZN Inter Club tournament for Men and the Ladies was held over the past two consecutive weekends. The ladies travelled to Empangeni over the weekend October 22-24, and the pairing of Lorein De Wit and Debbie Catlett kept the Dundee flag flying high as they managed to finish a creditable 7th out of 36 teams competing.

Well done ladies! Five men’s teams travelled to Pennington last Wednesday to compete in the Men’s Tournament. They played a practice round on the immaculate San Lameer course on Thursday, and although the gustily north easterly wind made playing conditions very tough – a large number of golf balls were lost – everyone enjoyed the day.
Unfortunately the howling wind continued through to Saturday, and all the Dundee players struggled to find good form in the two day tournament. The results were rather disappointing with only the B2 team of L Shawe, W Du Plessis and J Engelbrecht coming close to qualifying for the final play-offs.
Saturday’s Club Competition saw a mediocre field of 21 players competing in the I.P.S. competition, with Willie Maritz wining on 41 points, followed by John Zulu on 38 points, managing to count out JP Roets who also scored 38 points. There were only two players carding a 2 Club, Billy Francis on No.4 and Willie Maritz on No.12.

The club has three lady members, Lorein De Wit, Debbie Catlett and Vlooi Slabbert competing in the S.A. Ladies Mid Amateur tournament at St. Francis Bay this week, and we wish them all the best. This week’s fixtures; Wednesday 9 Hole Chicken Run. Friday, 10 Hole Meat Competition; and Saturday November Monthly Mug Medal Competition.

The Dundee Corporate Classic takes place in two weeks time on Friday November 20, and there are still a few tee-off times available, so those businesses who would like to participate are requested to contact the club.
