Uelzen’s Grade 6 class learn all about team work and more
Skills which were utilised and developed included teamwork, communication, listening and leadership.
An exciting trip took place to the Babanango Valley from October 13-15. On arrival, everyone settled down in their tents.
First on the programme was an obstacle team challenge, which was very competitive.

Soon after this was camp silence.
After breakfast on Wednesday morning a river study was done using water species to illustrate habitat changes. Many different species were collected and studied. The quality of water was also investigated.
After lunch the students were allowed to go and cool down in the river, which included mud fights.
That evening before dinner an evening challenge was held. This encouraged students to involve everyone, support each other and build trust in each other.
After packing everything into the bus, a grassland habitat study was done looking at habitats and using grass species to illustrate habitat changes. Many different grass types were collected and studied.
“What I learnt most about his tour is stick to basics and work together as a team. We were not happy to leave but arrived home safely, having learnt a great deal and having a memorable time together.” (Jayde Caldecott)
“The activity I enjoyed most on our Babanango tour was the team challenges. I liked it the most because my awesome team “Illusion” worked together and showed a sense of camaraderie.
The lessons we learnt together and leadership qualities we had to show was our spirit of winning. When we were down and out, we lifted each other up.
The new member that joined our team was a plain, simple egg which we named “Wizard of Oz”. We treated Oz with love and care. We made a cute nest for Oz. While doing the activities, we realised that we should think out of the box sometimes.
Building the ponds, Illusion worked together and co-operated. Our pond was 31 cm! Wow! I had fun making it and had plenty of fun doing it!” (Nikara Ramdutt)
