Update: Hijacking victim to be buried this weekend

The funeral will be held on Saturday at Victory Chapel

The man who was shot and killed in an attempted hijacking on Friday in the Ekuvukeni area has been identified as 26-year-old Dwane Kinners.

The vehicle he was in was en-route to deliver bread when the occupants came under attack by two gunmen near the Tholeni bridge in Ekuvukeni. As the vehicle approached the bridge, unknown gunmen opened fire on the driver and passenger.

In a desperate attempt to escape, Kinners “put foot” and tried to speed away.

Kinners was shot in the head and his co-driver in the arm.

The truck went down an embankment and the suspects fled the scene.

EMS paramedics responded and stabilised the gunshot victims.

The driver was critically injured and rushed to Ladysmith Provincial Hospital, where nurses and doctors tried their best to resuscitate the young man. However, he sadly passed away due to his injuries.

Police are investigating a case of murder.

Social media sites were abuzz with the news of Dwane Kinners’ tragic death.

He is survived by his parents and his nine-year-old daughter.

The funeral will be held on Saturday at Victory Chapel.
