With the approach of the festive season, police have urged stokvel groups who will be distributing contributions to their members to take extra precautions when dealing with large sums of money.

Last Wednesday, November 4 an Ekuvukeni, Ladysmith resident fell victim of a house robbery.

The victim along with six other members of the stokvel they belong to shared money amongst each other, when three unknown armed suspects entered the house and demanded cash.

The suspects fled the scene of the crime on foot with R 38 000 and five cell phones, no one was injured.

A house robbery case was registered and is currently under investigation.

“We would like to warn all stokvel members to be vigilant and take extra precautions when dealing with large sums of money.
The members can arrange with banks to make use of electronic banking facilities. And avoid withdrawing large amounts of cash,” said the KZN Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobenie as she commended the robbery.
