Matthew aims for gold

Matthew Ewart stands a chance of bringing international victory to Newcastle.
This comes after the 17-year-old took part in the All Africa Convention in Bloemfontein during October, along with a handful of his fellow pupils from Aletheia Christian College.
At the convention, pupils of Accelerated Christian Education schools from across Africa competed in sports, academics and art.
“I took part in various divisions, but excelled in the soccer six-a-side category and the soccer-kick division,” Matthew said.
In the soccer six-a-side division, Aletheia Christian College came second.
While commendable, it was in the soccer-kick category Matthew excelled.
“The soccer-kick is when you stand 10 metres away from the goal posts and kick the ball in. The ball is not allowed to bounce before the goal line and every time you score, you step back an extra five metres,” Matthew explained.
Matthew tied for first place, standing a staggering 45 meters away from the goal posts.
“I was then selected to represent Africa at the International Student Convention in the United States,” said Matthew.

The cost of the trip is R58 000 and he desperately needs sponsorship.
“There will be 2000 people competing and it will be a great achievement if I was able to bring the gold home for Newcastle,” he concluded.
