Municipality removes rusted fences

New concrete fencing erected around the sports fields meant an end to vehicles tearing up the grass, and a possible end to vandalism of change rooms.

The sporting community welcomed restoration at the Arbor Park grounds.

New concrete fencing erected around the sports fields meant an end to vehicles tearing up the grass, and a possible end to vandalism of change rooms.

However, the positives were not without their negatives.

Last week, a resident reported snarls of rusted fencing opposite Arbor Park Primary School, where children wait for their transport home.

He expressed concern someone might be hurt by the aged wire.

“I’m glad to see work done at the grounds, but there is a lot of wire lying around. What if a child gets hurt there?”

The Newcastle Advertiser visited the site and confirmed the resident’s complaint, with the matter reported to the Newcastle Municipality for urgent action.

Director of Parks, Recreation and Cemeteries, Vish Govender was tasked with responding.

“We are currently removing the rusted fencing; it will be complete by this afternoon (last Wednesday).”

True to his word, the rusted fencing has since been removed.
