MAHLONI Primary concluded the year with the grade R farewell and awards function on November 26.
We congratulate the Grade R class of 2015, with 34 learners graduating to grade 1 in 2016 and we further convey our sincere thanks to Miss M Mnyandu (social worker at Vryheid), our guest speaker, and Miss AT Simelane, our Grade R educator.
“To the entire staff, SGB and parents, I’m really proud to be part of you,” said the principal, Mr EM Mthethwa.
Miss Mnyandu highlighted in her keynote address that parents and educators are the main root. Learners need to be encouraged all the time to do their best. They need to be taken care of, to be given unconditional love and to be mindful of the fact that all we are saying and doing has an impact on their lives.
As one reflects on the year behind us at Mahloni School, there are both tragedies and triumphs to be remembered. Sadly, we lost two educators and three of our learners were badly injured. However, we have also achieved many successes of which we can be very proud. Culturally, we have travelled up to provincial championship level with both Isicathamiya and Afro-gospel with instruments. In sports we went as far as district level with athletics, with Vukani Mthethwa on 800m. In October we had educational excursions to Durban.
Academically, we awarded certificates to learners who performed as top achievers. We would like to thank the educators for their hard work in uncovering the learners’ God-given talents, bringing them to life and developing their skills with honour and pride through extra-mural and co-curricular activities.
Furthermore, we would like to thank our various sponsors, businesses and individuals, as well as parents, who have made our journey possible. “In closing, I would like to thank God Almighty for bringing us this far.” added Mthethwa. “He has been the hallmark of all of our endeavours and without Him we would not be able to reach our ultimate goal of giving quality education to our learners.”
