Vryheid Cricket Club – Wicket woes for Wasps as X marks the spot

In Paulpietersburg, Gladiators were hosted by Dumbe.

Dumbe batted first and scored a mammoth 268/4 in their innings thanks to a brilliant 113 in just 72 balls by Captain Leon Solms, who was ably assisted by Mark Hinze who scored 83 runs.

Wicket takers for the Gladiators were Craig Petersen (3-0-32-2) and Zia Rahman (5-0-28-1). In batting, the Gladiators were able to bat out their 30 overs reaching a total of 176/9, mainly thanks to Freddy Stoltenkamp making 83. Bryan Vorster had the next highest score of 15.

Best bowling for Dumbe came from Alwyn Carstens (6-1-26-3) and Ludwig Niebuhr (6-0-32-3). Dumbe won the match by 92 runs.

In the other match, Mr X played Wicket Wasps at Cecil Emmett.

Wicket Wasps batted first and struggled to 124 all out in the 25th over with Ashley van den Heever (39) and Andrew Brooks (31) top scoring.

Jaco Grobbelaar claimed 4 wickets for 21 runs in his 5 over spell, Nathan Stride was also in the wickets, ending with figures of 4-0-16-2.
