Police arrest money scammers
Residents urged not to fall victim to such scams

Dundee Police have arrested four men suspected to be involved in a number of drop money scams in the province.
When interrogated by police, the men admitted that they had already robbed people in Empangeni, Nkandla and other areas.
“We appeal to anyone who might be fallen victim of such scams to come forward and report their cases to any local police station,” said Major Thulani Zwane, KZN SAPS Communications Officer.
The men target victims they know to have money. One of the men ‘drops off’ money next to the victim. He then approaches the victim saying that since they both found the money, they should share it. While continuing to talk to the victim, in an attempt to confuse them, another two or three men will then approach the two and pretend as if they are police officers, who are investigating a case where the two were seen picking up the money. The group of men will take the victim to a secluded area where they will rob them of their money.
“We also appeal to the community not to be the victims of such crimes. They must not entertain those who say they have money and must share it,” said KwaZulu Natal Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni.
