KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Taxi Violence Task Team has made a breakthrough when they arrested three alleged hitmen who are suspected of murdering Indaka Municipal Manager, Sunatra Khumalo (53).
Mr Khumalo was shot dead on the evening of July 16 while travelling in his vehicle along the Helpmekaar Road in Intshele area when he was ambushed by three gunmen who shot and killed him. The motive of the killing is still unclear. The three suspects aged between 30 and 37 will appear in the Ezakheni Magistrate’s Court today.
Two unlicensed firearms were recovered during the arrest of the suspects. The recovered firearms will be sent for ballistic testing to ascertain if they were used in the commission of Mr Khumalo’s murder as well as any other crime in the country.
The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni applauded the Provincial Taxi Violence Task Team for the arrest of the suspects. “Our detectives will leave no stone unturned in this case and we believe that the suspects will also remain in custody till we finalise our investigation,” she said.
