The last drop?

It seems that Klipfontein has finally run dry.

It seems that Klipfontein has finally run dry.

Dry taps and muddy water, these are some of the conditions many residents have been facing as Vryheid’s water crisis issue intensifies.
According to Nkululeko Zulu, a local resident who lives in Heeren Street, his family have been faced with the matter of dirty water since yesterday at noon.
“We had to go and buy our drinking water and are only using the muddy water for bathing,” said and unhappy Nkululeko.
“This municipality does not care about us, how can they let us drink water in this condition?” he continued.
A municipal worker at the Technical Services Department who asked not to be named said that all the water in town was in this condition and there was nothing they could do about it.
“This water was the very last from the bottom of Klipfontein Dam and although it did undergo the purification process, very little could be done about the colour,” he said.
According to this municipal worker, the water from Klipfontein Dam might carry locals through two more days before we all experience dry taps.
The municipality will then try to pump water from Grootgewacht but even with this being done, there is no certainty as to where the town’s fate lies regarding the water crisis.
