Carnage on the Dundee road

According to medical rescue technicians at the scene, a total of 18 people, excluding the deceased, sustained injuries ranging from severe to minor in the accident.

MONDAY afternoon saw the R33, a treacherous stretch of road between Dundee and Vryheid, claim yet another life.

A man in his twenties was killed in a collision between a taxi and a light motor vehicle in the Scheepersnek area shortly after midday after an overtaking manoeuvre went horribly wrong.

It is alleged that the driver of the light motor vehicle, which was travelling towards Vryheid, overtook the taxi on a barrier line and was unable to return to its lane fast enough. The two vehicles subsequently collided, causing them to overturn and come to rest in the grass at the side of the road.

The taxi came to rest in the grass alongside the road. Injured passengers were treated at the scene for minor to moderate injuries in most cases.

It is believed that the deceased was ejected from the taxi and died instantly after the taxi rolled over him. According to medical rescue technicians at the scene, a total of 18 people, excluding the deceased, sustained injuries ranging from severe to minor in the accident. All patients were treated at the scene and transported to hospital for further treatment.
