St Dominic’s Academy has boasted a 100 per cent matric pass rate for the 30th year on the trot.
The matric class of 2015 excelled, exclaimed Principal, John Douthwaite, with 94 per cent of pupils qualifying with university passes, and six per cent earning diploma passes.
Top of the class was head boy, Garrick Bach.
Garrick achieved A symbols in all seven of his subjects, namely Accounting, Afrikaans, English, Life Orientation, Life Sciences, Mathematics and Physical Science.
Overall, he completed the year with an 85 per cent average.
Amal Siddique and Ryan Pedrelli also performed outstandingly with A aggregates, both finishing with six As and one B.
Garrick has enrolled at Stellenbosch University, where he will pursue an LLB in Accounting.
Amal and Ryan are both off to Pretoria University, where they will pursue an Accounting and Mining Engineering degree respectively.
Another eight pupils at St Dominc’s Academy achieved B aggregates.
They are Nelis Boshoff, Nomalizo Duze, Jordan Friend, Nosipho Mfusi, Samu Mthembu, Sipho Nkosi, Sinethemba Sibisi, Jane van Dyk and Sinamile Zungu.
Jane finished in the top one per cent of IEB candidates, taking Afrikaans as a first additional language.
Both Nomazilo and Samu have been accepted for medical courses at UCT and Stellenbosch respectively, while Sipho and Sinethemba will be studying Pharmacy at UKZN and Rhodes.
Nelis and Jordan will attend Pretoria University, to study towards Industrial Engineering and Geology respectively.
Nosipho is pursuing Mechanical Engineering at either Wits or UCT.
A Chemical Engineering degree is the goal of Jane, at Potchefstroom, while Senamile is applying her skills at the International Hotel School in Cape Town.
“Another most pleasing outcome were the eight As achieved by the 24 Maths pupils and eight distinctions received by the 12 isiZulu pupils.”
Mr Douthwaite expressed his gratitude towards the teaching staff and matriculants for their sterling efforts, also extending thanks to parents for their continued support of both their pupils and the school.
“I am also pleased that the majority of pupils who applied to universities have been accepted at the universities of their choice. I am confident they will make a significant contribution in their chosen fields,” he concluded.
