Aspiring princesses and pageant girls – Miss Newcastle 2016 is finally here!
The grand finale of the Miss Newcastle extravaganza will take place on May 7 at the previous Monte Vista Casino.
The theme is ‘under construction’, and the first event will commence in the form of a meet and greet.
The prejudging or preliminary round will be held during the month of February. The dress code for this round will be jeans and a white shirt or T-shirt.
Rules and regulations
In order to qualify, the contestant must meet the following criteria:
– The contestant must be at least 17 years of age to enter. Contestants older than 23 years of age on the January 1, 2016, may not enter.
– The contestant must be a South African citizen and be in possession of a valid ID.
– The contestant must be in the possession of a matric certificate, an equivalent qualification or in her matric year.
– A contestant cannot enter if they are married, or if their marriage has been annulled.
– A contestant cannot enter Miss Newcastle if they are engaged.
– The contestant may not enter if she has given birth to a child or be pregnant at the time of the competition.
– No visible tattoos.
– No criminal record.
– The contestant must possess ambassadorial qualities.
– The contestant may not enter if they are using illegal substances.
All the Miss Newcastle contestants will be required to perform and attend a limited number of engagements during the time leading up to the grand finale.
The winner will remain under contract of the Miss Newcastle pageant to perform community-related projects for the year of her reign.
The following documentation must be submitted along with the entry form:
– 1 x full length colour photograph.*
– 1 x close up facial / portrait photograph.*
– a copy of your ID.
– a copy of your matric certificate or proof that you are currently in your matric year.

A fee of R400 must be paid upon submission of the entry form. The fee includes all photos taken by Studio Elle during the course of the pageant. The package will be presented at the prize giving by Studio Elle.
The package includes:
– A CD of all the photographs taken during the four months leading up to the final event.
– A DVD of the grand finale, which will be used for the photogenic judging section for the main event.
Under no circumstances will parents, spectators, helpers or partners be allowed backstage, or to attend events.
The following rules will be applied in the strictest sense:
– The 2015 winner is not permitted to enter in 2016.
– The decision of the judges will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
– If Miss Newcastle 2016, the first and second princess meet the Miss South Africa criteria, they will gain automatic entry to the Miss SA pageant in 2017. The dates of the regional judging and interview rounds will be released at a later stage.
If contestants are not selected during the preliminary judging, their entry fee will be refunded by the end of February.
