A 9mm pistol and pieces of a police uniform were confiscated by police after a 34-year-old man was arrested on Friday in the Gqohi area, Pomeroy.
Members of the Newcastle Public Order Police together with Umzinyathi Intelligence arrested the man after members followed up information. The arrested suspect, who was not named by police, has appeared in the Msinga Magistrates’ Court. He was remanded in custody until January 19.
In another similar operation, last week members of the Pietermaritzburg Public Order Police, together with Msinga SAPS, embarked on an intelligence-driven operation in the Msinga area. The members proceeded to a homestead in Ndaya area, where two rifles, a pistol and 38 live rounds of ammunition were recovered. A 55-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunitions. He appeared in the Msinga Magistrates’ Court on Monday, January 18.
“The recent successes of the recovered firearms proves that our members are working tirelessly to confiscate the firearms that are in the hands of the criminals. With the community participation, we are turning the tide against crime,” said KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni.
