The historic 1879 battle of Isandlwana, which was the scene of one of  Imperial Britain’s most devastating defeats, will be re-enacted this Saturday, January 23, to mark the 137th anniversary of the battle that sent shock waves around the world.

The Zulu regiments triumphed in a surprise attack on the British camp under the iconic Isandlwana peak.

King Goodwill Zwelithini will watch the Redcoats and the Zulus renew hostilities but this time, no blood will be spilt.

The first re-enactment was held in 1999, to mark the 120th anniversary of the battle, which saw the British Diehards come out to re-enact the battle with historian and author, Ian Knight, advising.

This eventually led to the founding of the Dundee Diehards later that year who re-enacted the battle of Talana to mark the centenary in October of that year of the Anglo Boer War. Since then the Dundee Diehards have gone on to complete hundreds of re-enactments around the country and have also appeared in several movies and documentaries.
