It’s said that if you want something done, do it yourself!

This worked for the members of Umtshezi Cricket Association (UCA) and the players were back on the cricket pitch at Lambert Park this weekend. The association had to postpone some of its matches last week after the vast amount of bottle piece shards were strewn all over the field, this was left over from the Mtshezi Fest Imbizo held on December 24.

One person’s palm was sliced open and the association decided to stop the matches to prevent further injury. Last week cricket teams decided to clean up the field and spent a few hours picking up the bottle shards.

Assistance from a cricketer’s family member also saw that majority of the litter was removed. “The field is now playable and fixtures will continue as normal,” commented a UCA member.

On Monday Umtshezi Municipality’s Acting Municipal Manager Elphas Dladla responded to the concerns raised in last week’s newspaper.
“The matter and the cause of injury will be investigated,” said Mr Dladla.

“We are currently cleaning the facility with a bigger team to ensure total safety of all users of the facility,” he added.
