Zulu Zebras pip Redcoats in exciting ‘Rorke’s Drift’ football penalty shoot-out

The Redcoats and Zulus did battle on the football field to remember the epic 1879 defence of Rorke's Drift

Zulus and Redcoats again clashed at Rorke’s Drift, marking the 137th anniversary of the famous Anglo Zulu War battle.  But this time, there were no rifles or spears:  just football boots, a ball, a very rudimentary field and a great spirit. There was yet again a shoot-out:  this time a penalty shoot-out after the gallant teams drew 0-0 after regulation time.

The penalty shoot-out, that went into ‘sudden death’ was won by the Zulu Zebras!  The second annual Rorke’s Drift commemorative football game was organised by Charles Aitkenhead of the Rorke’s Drift Hotel and a magnificent trophy was presented to the winning team!
