Awards for top 30 matriculants
Speaking at the event, the mayor addressed the matrics and gave them a few words of encouragement
Emnambithi/Ladysmith Municipality presented awards to the top 30 matriculants who passed with the highest marks on Friday.
The awards ceremony took place at the Town Hall, where the top 30 matriculants, along with their parents and other family members, gathered as they were addressed by Mayor Vincent Madlala. Each top achiever was awarded with a recognition certificate and trophy as a sign of appreciation on a job well done on behalf of Emnambithi/Ladysmith Municipality.
Speaking at the event, the mayor addressed the matrics and gave them a few words of encouragement. “I am not a professional motivational speaker, but with the small ability I have, I want to speak to the young people. Those who have just passed matric and those who are still in Grade 11, in fact all of you.
“In 2012, I was addressing students at a similar event and I told them that as a person, you can succeed despite difficult circumstances, poor backgrounds and humble beginnings. Through sheer hard work, commitment and determination, nothing can prevent you from achieving your full potential and your dreams.”
“The education we receive from our schools will certainly allow us to benefit positively from it, which will in turn shape our personalities to ensure that we become responsible citizens in life. Whatever path you take, you should always be true to yourselves. Remember that hard work and sheer determination will unlock the doors of success for you.”
Also on the day, over 120 matrics were awarded with registration bursaries by Emnambithi/Ladysmith Municipality’s Youth Development Office under the Office of the Mayor.
