On January 23, Hannelie Raffenberg took her enthusiastic hiking group on an exciting adventure to Tugela Gorge near Mont-Aux-Sources. The Tugela Gorge Hiking Trail passes through alternative stretches of protea veld and forest.

This trail starts at the Royal Natal car park and follows the course of the Tugela River for some 7.5 kilometers. The last few kilometers are somewhat tricky as the path is along the river and a certain amount of boulder hopping is required.

This experience was a little nerve wrecking to some, but they helped each other and made it a fun exercise.
Even though they encountered a little bit of rain near the end, they really enjoyed themselves and were once again inspired by the beauty of our country.

They ended the excursion off with pizzas from a little shop called “The leaning Tower of Pizza”. This was definitely a Saturday well spent as learners realised that relishing the fresh mountain air trumps a lethargic morning in front of the television any day.
