Update: Ceiling collapses in Gaza Place
According to the homeowner, questions have to be asked, as the construction company should have known there was a strong likelihood that it was going to rain

The ceiling of a home in Gaza Place collapsed earlier this afternoon (Monday).
A company assigned by the municipality has been carrying out repairs at the house, fitting ceilings in one of the rooms, the kitchen and the bathroom. The recent heavy rains caused the ceilings to open up.
Today, construction workers got to the house at about 11am and started replacing the roof.
When the heavens opened and rain started pouring down, the construction crew did not cease working, but continued by using rocks and stones to hold the tins down.
The kitchen ceiling then collapsed. Fortunately, there were no people in the kitchen at the time. Water flowed through the house like a river. Not knowing what possessions to save, homeowner Mrs Shania Mungaroo tried to rescue what belongings she could.
According to the homeowner, questions have to be asked, as the construction company should have known there was a strong likelihood that it was going to rain.
The workers evidently left the house in the terrible state it was in and did not even help Mrs Mungaroo.
Mrs Mungaroo is currently without electricity, and concerned neighbours are helping her to clean up.
IFP councillor Abbas Warasally says he is disappointed that the construction workers are not doing their job properly, making use of rocks and stones to secure the roof, which did not help. The workers packed up and left the homeowner to struggle alone.
Cllr Warasally contacted the chairperson of the portfolio committee, who promised to get assistance. Sharaj Rescue helped to clean up.
