Devotees pierce their bodies for Thaipoosam Kavady
Lord Muruga is worshipped on this auspicious occasion

The Shri Siva Soobramoniar Temple observed their Thaipoosam Kavady on Sunday morning in Agra Road. The Kavady prayer is observed by devotees over a 10-day period, during which time devotees abstain from alcohol and meat, among other things.
Lord Muruga is worshipped on this auspicious occasion.
Many offered milk, water, fruit and floral tributes, and others went so far as to pierce various parts of their bodies with hooks and small lances called ‘vel’.
Devotees pierce their tongues and cheeks to impede speech, thereby attaining full concentration on the Lord and showing their true faith and devotion to the Lord.
