Cash in by participating in the Incentive League

Points are awarded to club members participating in time trials, long runs and races

February marks the start of our LAC Incentive League and Monthly Time Trial trophies, so don’t miss out on this opportunity to cash in at the end of the year. Points are awarded to club members participating in time trials, long runs and races as follows: Seniors: weekend long runs – 10 points; time trials, 10km races and half-marathons (21.1km) – 15 points; standard marathon (42.2km) – 25 points; and ultras (more than 42.2km) – 35 points.

The first three male and female runners accumulating the most points during the year will receive the following cash incentives: first – R1000 and a trophy each; second – R500 each; and third – R250 each.

The monthly time trial trophy is based on attendance and progress during the month. On Saturday, January 30, we travelled to Volksrust to participate in their annual event.

As expected, good results were achieved by Ladysmith Athletic Club and six of our runners qualified for the Comrades. Race results: marathon (42,2km) – 02:50 Bongani Zwane; 03:18 Elbart Mbatha; 03:19 Andrias Ndebele; 03:38 Casper Kempen; 03:50 Lincoln Sibiya. 32km race – 02:16 Sazi Ndaba and 02:40 Cyril Mkhwanazi. Half-marathon (21.1km) – 01:19 Siyabonga Zikalala (first junior); 01:24 Mnati Lembethe (second junior); 02:36 Nadia Mac Donald and Jacques Meyer. 10km – 01:12 Nokwazi Maphalala and Thabile Mtambo. 10km walkers – 01:45 Wanda Botha.

Then, the result of the weekend came from Chine Pieterse, who ran the Ottosdal Night Marathon (42,2km) in Potchefstroom in a time of 03:41, the fastest time by an LAC lady in more than two decades. Very well done to everyone who finished their respective races, as well as the Emnambithi Striders runners.

Thanks to all who braved the rain at the time trials.

Time trial results from January 28: 4km walkers: 43:14 C vd Berg, 43:14 E vd Berg. 4km runners: 17:06 S Zikalala, 17:20 M Lembethe, 17:27 A Ndebele, 18:35 N Xaba, 18:54 L Sibiya, 25:47 M Nala, 25:58 N Mac Donald, 25:28 J Oberholzer, 27:58 N Maphalala. 6km: 31:10 C Mkhwanazi, 31:10 M Khumalo, 32:59 C Mazibuko.

Remember the time trials every Thursday from our clubhouse in Klipbank Road at 5.30pm. Thought for the week: Don’t quit. You’re already in pain. You’re already hurt. Get a reward from it.
