Hannah is our record-breaking swimming star
She recently broke the LHS record for 50-metre backstroke that was set by M Hahn in 1992

15-year-old Hannah Varayawa has broken a swimming record that has stood for 24 years.
Hannah started swimming when she was five and says the reason is mostly because her parents had a pool, but her real motivation is her father who always pushes her to be the best she possibly can be.
She joined the Ladysmith Marlins Swimming Club six years ago. This season alone, she has won 16 medals and five trophies at various galas for long course and short course races. She is hoping to make senior nationals.
She recently broke the Ladysmith High School (LHS) record for 50-metre backstroke that was set by M Hahn in 1992. The next goal on her agenda is to qualify for honours by swimming the 50-metre backstroke in under 35 seconds. Her current best time is 35.12 seconds. She aimed to break the 35-second barrier on Saturday, but unfortunately missed by 0.12 seconds again. But the next gala is coming up and her goal will be the same.
Hannah says she hopes to go as far as Bradley Tandy, and that Chad le Clos is her role model. She will be swimming at an age group gala this coming Saturday in Newcastle.
