Local swimmers dominate at the Elite Gala

Swimming fanatics travelled from near and far participate in an Elite Gala held at Newcastle Swimming Pool on January 30.

“The event was organised by Newcastle Swimming Club, and several other clubs were invited to participate. It was an exciting day, with medals and spot prizes to be won,” explained Aqua Adrenaline’s, Emsie van der Merwe.

Braving the blistering heat, local competitors excelled and scooped the top spots in several items.

The following swimmers from Newcastle Swimming Club received medals:

– Gustav Boshoff: Three gold, one silver and four bronze medals.

– Sharur Ramautar: Two silver and two bronze medals.

– Abigail Peters: 10 gold and two silver medals.

– James Schnetler: One gold and two silver medals.

– Kai Goosen: One silver and two bronze medals.

– Cameron Fenton: One gold, one silver and one bronze medal.

– Francois Weyers: Three silver and three bronze medals.

– Cameron Fraser: Two silver and two bronze medals.

– Kelsey Kemp: Three gold, one silver and one bronze medal.

– Kayla Pretorius: Six gold, one silver and one bronze medal.

– Jany Schnetler: Four silver and four bronze medals.

– Paula van Zyl: One silver medal.

– Amy Fraser: Two gold, six silver and one bronze medal.

– Varish Ramautar: Three gold and two silver medals.

– Erich van Zyl: One silver and one bronze medal.

– Arno van Zyl: One gold and one silver medal.

– Nerissa Fourie: One bronze medal.

Swimmers 12 to 13 years:

Minette Janse van Vuuren: Four gold, two silver and one bronze medal.

Wuan Pretoruis: One gold and one silver medal.

Gerian Kock: One gold medal.

FC Scholtz: Two silver medals.

Storm van der Merwe: One silver and two bronze medals.

Swimmers 14 to 15:

Rhuben Nortjé: Five gold and one silver medal.

Ruan Janse van Vuuren: One gold and five silver medals.

Ingrid Groenewald: One silver and three bronze medals.

Graham Whitehead: One silver and two bronze medals.

Cornel-Marie van der Merwe: One silver and two bronze medals.

Swimmers 16 and over:

Vanessa van der Merwe: Four gold medals.

Francois Viviers: One gold, one silver and one bronze medal.
