Esperanza develops into a place of hope
The Esperanza Special Needs School management team would be creating a warehouse within the school’s property, where people with special needs could potentially find employment.
For children with special needs, Esperanza Special Needs School offered an opportunity to grow and learn in a way other children often took for granted.
However, after becoming an integrated part of the community, the time has come for the school to leave its premises in Impala Road and move to greener pastures.
“The house we are currently using is being sold and at the end of March, we will be moving to our new premises in Rietbok Lane,” said principal of Esperanza, Jennifer Pillay.
The move has the school staff thrilled as the new premises would see Esperanza expanding in more ways than one.
“Our school has grown to such an extent that our current premises have become too small and the new building is going to be much bigger. Aside from the extra space, we will also be starting a new initiative for adults with special needs.”
Esperanza’s management team would be creating a warehouse within the school’s property, where people with special needs could potentially find employment.
“Once children finish school, they are not always able to find employment and land up sitting at home all day and doing nothing. But once we are settled into the new building, we want businesses to come on board with us so special needs people can feel like they are contributing to society,” Mrs Pillay said.
The work involved would not be stressful or require too much physical strength, she added.
“It would involve people sorting out merchandise and packing boxes. We will have a supervisor to help them, but the aim is to show special needs people they are special and can work.”
While the school’s management team were aiming to educate its pupils and offering special needs adults employment, Mrs Pillay said they still needed assistance from the community.
“The new premises needs renovations done to ensure it can be functional for children attending the school. The toilets, floors and kitchen needs some work done, and the new building has so much potential, we would really appreciate assistance from the community,” Mrs Pillay said.
Doors and a jungle gym were also needed.
Furthermore, the school also required businesses to help its dreams of a warehouse a reality.
