Denied student loan leads Vryheid man to suicide

SATURDAY was a very sombre day for community members at the Kwa A section of Emondlo as they gathered to lay 21-year-old Lindelani Myeza to rest.

The first year student at the Durban University of Technology is alleged to have taken his own life on the evening of Friday, February 12 after being denied National Student Financial Aid Scheme assistance.

Myeza is said to have been the first child in his family to go to varsity

Lindelani, who was set to commence his management sciences studies, was living in the Persada Residence in Berea, Durban, and fell to his death from the 6th floor of the building.

A statement by Alan Khan, Senior Director of Corporate Affair at the DUT, read: “On Friday night (12 February 2016), one of our students, Mr Lindelani God’s Love Myeza, who was living in the Persada Residence on the Berea in Durban, tragically fell to his death from the 6th floor of the building.,” “Lindelani was a first year student in the University’s Management Sciences Faculty. He was already registered as a first year student and entered residence last Tuesday, 9 February 2016. The University is assisting his family at this difficult time. The police have launched an investigation into the matter. I am sure that you will join me in expressing our deepest condolences and sympathies to his family and friends.”
