Leap year babies are in the unique position of choosing not only the day but the month in which they would like to celebrate their birthdays on non-leap years.

Some may choose to celebrate on February 28, since they were born in February, while other may choose to celebrate their birthday on March 1, which the date they would have been born had it not been a leap year.

By 11am this February 29, seven leaplings had already been delivered at the Vryheid Hospital, with more on way.

The first leapling to be delivered was adorable, little Thobani Ntuli at 12.20am. With his birthday being closer to February 28, this is most likely the date his mother, Ntombenhle, will choose to celebrate his birthday on.

Siyabonga Mabuza came into the world a short while later, at 4am and his mum, Sibongile, says she will definitely be celebrating his birthday on February 28 in non-leap years.

The Vryheid Herald wishes all leap year babies well and we look forward to your first birthdays on February 29, 2020.
